I usualy play 4 full (9players) tables SNG's and when I get down to 6 at 2 or more tables I change my filter to short. Should I change the config also so it's traking short or just leave that at Full/NL? Just wondering if it tracks correctly or if the config is just for the icons.

Configs determine what Icon will be associated (like you thought). They also determine what the name colors will be in the Lookup window. That's all it does.
Configs do not factor into how things track or are collected. Just the icons and the name colors.
Filters determine where the stat numbers come from. But just so you know... filters don't factor into how things track or are collected either. Filters and Configs are only about how things display. Everything gets collected right regardless.

That is entirely a personal choice...how you set the filters. PE will still log the info correct but will show only what you have on the filter.

i don't like to change to "short" until i am at four players, it seems that most people don't make that aggression and starting hand changes till there are around 4 people left, most don't change much when there are still 6 left, imo

i quite like the idea of changing the filters a bit later
say maybe when down to 5 or 4 players in a 1-table-SnG
if you change the filters
you'll have to change the settings in the Lookup- and the Main-window accordingly though,
otherwize you get funny results:
if your on Short in the Main and still Full No-Limit in the Lookup/config its not correct.
(but doesnt affect the collection of data as mentioned be4)

"if your on Short in the Main and still Full No-Limit in the Lookup/config its not correct."
I play SNGs that way all the time. The Lookup-window config option only affects the icons you see and the name colors. It doesn't affect the stats you see in any way shape or form.
Once you've been using PE for some time you'll start looking more at the stat numbers and a lot less at the Icons. So setting the filters to short but leaving the config set to "Full NoLimit" works just fine for me. I get the advantage of Icons and Name Colors and Stat Numbers when I start playing at Full Table and the opponents are all new to me... but then just use the Stat numbers and the reads and notes I've developed for short table... when by then my reads should be good enough to have made the Icons irrelevant anyway.
Besides... it's just to much of a pain to keep switching the Lookup-window configs around every time one of your tables changes sizes. We already have to do that with the filters.
