Often, while shopping for online poker software, players find themselves trying to distinguish the features between PokerEDGE and Poker Tracker. Here is a comparative analysis taken from the PokerEDGE Community Forum.
This analysis was based upon PT 2, and PT 3 has since been released. Thus, the comparison is no longer entirely accurate.
This analysis, then, is offered mainly to aid in understanding PokerEDGE.
Click here to try PokerEDGE, it is available with a 5-day free trial.

PE uses a centralized database
- so that we each benefit from the data-mining and table-playing that all of us do. When you check out a table you'll see stats on almost all the players, even though you've never played them b4. When you move up in stakes you'll see stats on those players too.
PT installs a mini-database on your hard-drive
- When you first start PT the database is empty. You'll need to play & play many tables to start collecting enough data on players for there to be enough data to be useful. Any new players will have zero data collected on them. Even if every other PT player in the world has collected data on them b4. And PT alters your hand histories so that your friend can't give you his for you to load in and gain the data collecting that he has done. You're on your own when it comes to data collecting. And if you ever lose your hard-drive you lose all your collected stats. I think there is a complex procedure out there for moving data from one PC to another for the purposes of playing on more than one PC in your home.
PT doesn't have a built in HUD. You'll have to order a HUD from a third party company and then install it seperately. Pretty sure that'll cost you more.
PT doesn't automatically read your hands into the database. Normally you'd need to load all the new ones in every now and then. There is a newer method for getting PT to auto-read the hand histories... it's a bit complex but will work if you get it setup right. That took me a couple tries.
PT is very good at helping you find leaks in your own game, I use it for that.
So the trade off is...
PT: Buying a HUD seperately, a more complex configuration, figuring out how to get your hand histories auto-loaded in (or manually load them), and then datamining like crazy to collect stats on all the opponents in your stake level. Continued datamining at least every few days (those stats aren't going to collect themselves). And starting with empty stats every time you try a new poker-site, a new stake level, a new table size, or a new game type (SNG, MTT, Cash). All for one low cost... two if you want a HUD.
PE: Built in HUD, easy to install & configure, stats already collected on 90% of the players, your games are auto collected, When you change pokersites or game dynamics... those players have stats collected on them too. BUT... there is a monthly subscription price.
Also - existing members continue to pay the old prices (prices went up).
